In a cemetery, the stones commemorate and the earth transforms. In a rubble, the stones hide and the earth covers. This is a film about violence, the denial of rituals and the way in which certain surfaces can honor or undermine the fate of the dead.

This film is a continuous time-lapse with multiple exposures of the sunset from the same angle and position on 16mm film. The shoot was done in a span of 5 years. The title “13” is because the time-lapse has a 13-second interval per frame.

THE CAPACITY FOR ADEQUATE ANGER
A return to the village where she grew up after an absence of over ten years marks the point of departure for this video work, which Vika Kirchenbauer produced for her first institutional solo exhibition. A boy suffering from schizophrenia witnesses the killing of a deer in the woods, and then flees home in a panic. A series of visual stimuli forces the boy to return to the beginning, in the forest, to change the course of events.
