Ukrainian–Swedish Short Film Exchange for Emerging Voices
As the ongoing war continues to disrupt cultural life in Ukraine, with damaging infrastructure, displacing artists, and limiting funding, emerging filmmakers face significant challenges in developing and sharing their work. In response, a new initiative aims to support a generation of Ukrainian filmmakers through international collaboration, mentorship, and increased visibility.
Through Ukrainian–Swedish Short Film Exchange for Emerging Voices, Uppsala Short Film Festival and Kyiv International Short Film Festival are connecting Ukrainian talent with established professionals in Sweden’s film industry. The initiative seeks to build long-term professional relationships and strengthen artistic exchange between the two countries.
As part of the program, emerging Ukrainian filmmakers will take part in tailored sessions with Swedish film professionals, including script consultants, producers, programmers, and distributors. These meetings are designed to provide creative and strategic guidance, foster international collaboration, and support the development of new film projects.
Following the educational program, selected Ukrainian short film projects will be presented in a dedicated showcase at the 45th edition of Uppsala Short Film Festival, taking place 19–25 October 2026.
The showcase will offer participating filmmakers valuable international exposure and opportunities to connect directly with Swedish and International programmers, producers, and audiences.
This initiative aims not only to support individual artists but also to strengthen cultural resilience and ensure that Ukrainian voices continue to be seen and heard on the global stage.
