Depth of Field

With its image axis repeatedly tilting and tipping out of frame, Depth of Field (Tiefenschärfe in German) examines three places in the German city of Nuremberg haunted by and struggling against the memory of racist murders committed there by the far-right terrorist group National Socialist Underground between 2000 and 2005.

Germany, 2017, 14, Direction: Mareike Bernien, Alex Gerbaulet.

Town Ruled By Animals

A film that portrays Srebrenica from the perspective of the many stray cats and dogs that roam its empty streets, a unique portrait of a town where all hope seems to have been lost.

The Netherlands, 2019, 7, Direction: Prisca van der Mullen.

90 Seconds in North Korea

No warheads, no jackbooted soldiers, no statues of the god-emperor – instead, this is a poetic, evocative snapshot of everyday life in North Korea, the country ruled by the world’s most paranoid and secretive regime.

The Netherlands, 2018, 15, Direction: Ranko Pauković.

Vibrations still resonate from the land’s past. If you paid full attention you could hear the history underfoot. Repercussions is a portal that examines the link aboriginal people have to the land’s history and resonates into a future that is strengthened by this acknowledgement.

Canada, 2013, 3, Direction: Terril Calder.

Time Is Out of Joint

Narco-capitalism has significantly modified the rural environments of contemporary Mexico. More than 40,000 acres of Indigenous forest in Michoacán have been appropriated by narco-industries. In the state of Michoacán, where most of the drug war takes place, narco-cartels continue to merge with local police, criminal groups and Indigenous guerrillas.

Mexico, 2018, 25, Direction: Victor Arroyo.

Escaped Lunatic

In Escaped Lunatic, a steady stream of figures run across the screen, sprinting, jumping, and rolling through the streets of Houston. The artist employs the chase genre, which has often depicted African Americans in scenes of flight from various forms of authority.

United States, 2011, 7, Direction: Steffani Jemison.
