BILDWERDEN

Isolde Maria Joham – the woman pictured – steps onto a mobile scaffolding. She very gradually climbs up one step at a time before nearly reaching the top when she stops to give a thumbs-up and mischievously smiles at the camera.

ECCE

Ecce is an Escherian journey through the ordinary day of a woman who every day goes through the same task and cannot extricate herself from it. Soon we will realise that this is not the story of a single woman, but that of many people forced to live in the same claustrophobic circle of Dante.

INTO THE VIOLET BELLY

Interweaving family lore, mythology, science fiction, and digital abstraction, the film follows the collaboration between the artist and her mother who fled Vietnam after the end of the American War via a near-calamitous sea journey.

A NAP IN FLUOROSCOPY BUSES

Symbolism is used to compare a closed system to a bus, and depict a society in alienation and surveillance from a microscopic perspective. A fluoroscopy bus carries the crowd from the centre to the edge of the city. In the fixed and crowded carriage, some
people just boarding the bus collide with each other, and some people are taking a nap at their seats.

China 2023 / 6:45 / Director: Lei Lei

JILL, UNCREDITED

One of the world’s most prolific background actors takes centre stage in this unique portrait of Jill Goldston. Constructed entirely from Jill’s performances, captured fleetingly in the peripheries of everything from Mr. Bean to The Elephant Man, the film is at once a celebration of a singular screen oeuvre, a lyrical journey through half a century of popular culture, and a haunting study of a life lived out of focus.

Canada, United Kingdom 2022 / 18:20 / Director: Anthony Ing Producer: Anthony Ing, Catherine Bray, Charlie Shackleton

THE ALTAR

This buddhist story about guilt after a childhood incident of killing an ant while washing hands is animated through photographic sequences painted with golds and greys. The Zen-like visuals sweep into one another with whispering monologues and glitching noises reflecting the realms of cosmos, power, guilt, prayers, and existence.

Myanmar 2023 / 10:10 / Director: Moe Myat May Zarchi
