Future Ecologies 1 - Possible Worlds

The first programme takes as its departure the paths we tread and ends in the mountains we climb, together or alone. They are films leading from light to darkness and back again. The programme offers unexpected and provocative suggestions on how to heal the earth, experiencing the sounds of forest fires in South America and images of a giant garbage dump in Africa turn into thought-proving and ingenious film art, and the mystery of the frogs in the Costa Rican jungle becomes as visually arresting as the green shimmer of a glowworm’s behind.

STRANGERS IN THE DARK

This experimental documentary shows how light pollution makes the love life of glow-worms a living hell as they try to find a partner in an environment that is no longer dark at night. The story about light and darkness moves from the scale of planetary to microscopic, from the calmness of nature to a hectic city and from artificial light to the green shimmer of a glow-worm’s behind.
