Mary, Mary, So Contrary

Repurposing and manipulating footage from two classic films and the filmmaker’s own personal footage, Mary, Mary So Contrary weaves together a phantasmagoric narrative about a Chinese woman named Ma Li who dreams that she is a Caucasian woman named Mary.

Nelson Yeo is a Singaporean filmmaker. He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Digital Filmmaking from Nanyang Technological University in 2011. He is currently working on his debut feature film which was selected to participate in SGIFF Southeast Asian Film Lab 2017.

The Fantastic

The Fantastic is a film about imagination and encountering the unknown. Former North Koreans describe their experiences of watching forbidden foreign films. What did they imagine the world outside to be like on the basis of smuggled fiction films?

Maija Blåfield is an artist and an experimental documentary filmmaker from Helsinki, Finland. Her works often combine documentary and fiction in some way, exploring the fantastic side of our everyday life and digging up the stories from its events. 

I Am Afraid to Forget Your Face

After they have been separated for 82 days, Adam travels down a rough road to be reunited with the one he loves, whatever it takes.

Sameh (Cairo, Egypt) finished his MA in filmmaking at EICAR Film School, Paris. I Am Afraid to Forget Your Face is the first Egyptian film in 50 years to be selected for the Official Short Film Competition at Cannes Film Festival. Sameh is currently developing his debut feature film.

“I just want to be seen as who I am!” – In this experimental documentary John, the filmmaker’s twin brother, speaks and shares his thoughts on identity, body and gender. He allows an intimate insight into his life – and an immediate closeness to his body.

Nina Hopf is a German media-artist and student at the Bauhaus-University Weimar. She is mainly focused on printmaking, drawing and animation. Her work primarily deals with processes from her immediate environment and therefore it mostly has a biographical or documentary character.

This is a film about stuttering. Oh, and also about pigeons, cat callers, apple trees, Goethe’s Faust, forests, girls on horses and more.

Patrick Buhr is a media artist and animation freelancer based in Cologne. He studied philosophy in Berlin and media art at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne.

Sun Dog

Fedor is a young locksmith in the obscurity of the Russian Arctic. Client after client, he roams through the alleys of concrete, animated by a fantasy that isolates him from the city and its population.

Dorian Jespers (1993) is a Belgian filmmaker. He studied cinematography at INSAS and directing at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Gent, an education that focuses strongly on the development of a filmmaker’s personal language.
