Inside Outside Around: Luis Macías Audiovisual Live Performance

Screened:
SAT 24/10, 11:00 SLOTTS

“At that beautiful moment between reality and dreaming, an incorporeal forest emerges from the darkness and light. Dark, violent and self-assured, it shares its fears of nature’s despair.”

The audiovisual live performance Inside Outside Around uses multiple 16 mm and slide projectors to create “holographic” cinema in real time. Through an apparatus installed throughout the venue and the manipulation of light and overlapping forest imagery unfolding at varying intervals, this encompassing act invites the audience to engage with the unknown and astonishing path towards the forest. Experiencing cinema as something constructed in the moment, through a physical process of making enveloping sound, this work proposes a space for imagining a fundamental ecological change.

Luis Macías is an artist, filmmaker and moving image composer. He studied at Centre D’Estudis Cinematogràfics de Catalunya (CECC), and graduated in Art History from Murcia University, Spain. His works deal with the formal and spectral properties of the moving image, through the exploration of the cinematographic device itself and the photochemical nature of the medium. Focused on experimental and procedural practices of analogue images, his works in Super 8, 16 mm, 35 mm and/or video format are composed for projection, performance and installation. His films and expanded cinema pieces have been exhibited worldwide in prestigious film, art and music festivals as well as art centres, museums and alternative spaces. He balances his artistic practice with teaching experimental cinema, with an emphasis on the exploration of analogue moving images.

Inside Outside Around is part of Luis Macías’ spatial metaphors: a project by the European Short Film Network (ESFN) curated by 25 FPS Festival.
