Lithuania: Little Big Escapes

Young Lithuanian fiction filmmakers pay considerable attention to everyday life and family dynamics. While some analyse the social environments in which people live, others take a more personal approach. However, all the characters in these films seem to be searching for a way to escape – whether from fractured relationships, intense emotions, or confusion. Moral and existential questions often arise from the decisions they make or cannot make, inviting spectators to think about possible answers. This program provides an overview of the new generation of Lithuanian filmmakers, who explore their own poetics in depicting everyday experiences, ranging from complex situations to simple, fleeting escapes.
